The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:1 Cup | Not serious entertainment |
2 Cups | A reasonable game, worth a try |
3 Cups | A good game, worth playing |
4 Cups | A great game, well worth your time |
5 Cups | An outstanding, must-play game! |
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!
Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

AGS Panel Review
'A great attempt at a graphical remake of a fairly frustrating and illogical game. While it is understood that it was meant to be this way, even in easy mode, this frustration is far too evident. Being faithful to the source, the writing should be enjoyable to the fans, and even those who have not experienced The Highhiker's Guide before. '
@azerty: thank you so much, i didn't remember playing this game.

@Sarah: I wasn't planning to comment on my own game, but Sarah isn't an AGS nickname, and well, it would be easier to track if I knew it.
'The puzzles are completely non-sensical, the dead-ends and deaths constant, and the number of possibilities to try is massive.'
That's the most false argument I've ever heard about this game. The puzzles are ADEQUATELY HINTED. If you played this on hitchhiker mode (hard) and expected gentle manners, then yes this game isn't for you.
The dead-ends don't exist in strag mode as explained on the choose difficulty screen of the game.
I'd like to really tell me a puzzle that isn't hinted. The number of possibilities is massive especially if you skip text.

This has the honour of being crowned the most frustrating game I have ever played in my whole life (and believe me, I have played a lot!). The puzzles are completely non-sensical, the dead-ends and deaths constant, and the number of possibilities to try is massive. I would not recommend it unless you love a huge challenge, have a lot of time on your hands, and are very tolerant!
Also, I had quite a few problems with the game crashing and errors when trying to load saved game. In the end I had to give up completely because the drop button disappeared for some reason, I suppose a bug, and so I couldn't continue.
As the game is long, the manipulation of the inventory is also a big problem. It takes an awful lot of time to remember where different items have been stored and to extract them so that they can be used.

I just thought I should point out that this is a Windows (.exe) game. This page doesn't mention the operating system requirements, and the download is hidden inside a .RAR file so you can't tell until after you have downloaded it. (I'm a Linux user, and followed a link to this page. I originally assumed that if there was no OS mentioned it was in a cross-platform language such as Java. It isn't. And I had to answer a *lot* of stupid questions to register to be allowed to post this.)
Great atmosphere, true to the book and one or two really great puzzles. I found it a bit too tough overall though - couldn't make head nor tail of a couple of the puzzles, and poor old Arthur died countless times for nothing more than picking up a piece of paper (well maybe not quite that.. :-d). I'm still going to play it again when the voice pack comes out though! ;-D

If you've played the original Infocom one or have seen the movie or listened to the audio play or read the book, you should play this one. If you haven't, you should play this one.
Great story, true to the original. Atmospheric music and sounds, good puzzles that requires some common (non)sense. But you'll find that in the game. When you've played this game, you'll know where your towel is.
